West Hollywood is one of California’s most precious jewels. A small city with a big vision, we have lived by the motto, “Think globally – act locally,” earning an international reputation as leaders and innovators in municipal government.
As your Mayor and Councilmember, I’ve worked hard to live up to that vision. My priority is ensuring the best quality of life for residents – my record reflects that ideal.
I have endeavored to provide practical, common-sense service and leadership focused on residents’ priorities. I take pride in being responsive to every call, letter and email and work hard to be responsive and keep you informed. I have focused on the issues most important to our Community:
Public Safety: Ensuring West Hollywood is one of California’s safest cities has been my highest priority.
Caring for People in Need: I have championed our investment of over $5.5 million annually to help seniors and people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as victims of substance abuse, healthcare programs, food assistance programs and employment services.
Celebrating Our Diversity: I have been an advocate for West Hollywood’s diverse communities: LGBT, senior citizens, Russian-speaking immigrants, the disabled, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Neighborhood Quality of Life: West Hollywood is one of California’s most densely populated cities. While I support smart growth and sustainable development, proposed projects must consider impacts on traffic, parking and our quality of life. I have been the leading voice for neighborhood preservation and an advocate for restraint against overdevelopment.
Infrastructure: During my time on the City Council, we have rebuilt Santa Monica Boulevard, built a new Fire Station on San Vicente, and built a new Community Center at Plummer Park. We have ensured our streets are pothole-free and added over 100 units of affordable housing for senior citizens and the disabled.
I am committed to the progressive, forward-thinking leadership for which our City is known. Over the next 24 months, we will address parking shortages with new facilities at West Hollywood Park, Plummer Park and City Hall. In 2009, we will break ground on a new, state-of-the-art library.
West Hollywood will soon adopt a new General Plan, which will guide land-use over the next decade. Our building moratorium will end in Summer 2009, and it is my goal that the General Plan will fix problems resulting from overdevelopment.
I am proud of my record of achievement on your behalf and am honored to have the support of our Deputy Sheriffs, Firefighters, Congressman Henry Waxman, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, City Councilmembers and Community Leaders.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday, March 3rd. |
